Camphor Powder (Synthetic)

Synthetic Camphor Powder

Cooling, antipruritic, antimicrobial, plasticizer (celluloid), moth repellent, religious incense

Product Description

Synthetic camphor powder is an industrially produced form of camphor (bornan-2-one), chemically identical to natural camphor obtained from the camphor laurel tree (Cinnamomum camphora). Synthetic camphor is produced from alpha-pinene (derived from turpentine) through a multi-step chemical synthesis involving isomerization to camphene, esterification to isobornyl acetate, hydrolysis to isoborneol, and final dehydrogenation to camphor. The resulting product is purified by sublimation to yield a white, crystalline powder with the characteristic penetrating, aromatic, camphoraceous odor. Synthetic camphor dominates the global market (>80% of production) due to consistency, cost, and supply reliability. Fresure supplies synthetic camphor in fine powder form (40-80 mesh) in pharmaceutical and technical grades.

Benefits & Properties

Cooling, antipruritic, antimicrobial, plasticizer (celluloid), moth repellent, religious incense

Chemical Composition

Camphor (96% min), borneol (trace), isoborneol (trace)

Industry Applications

pharma

Pharmaceutical & OTC

Topical antipruritic, analgesic, and counterirritant in creams, ointments, liniments, and gels for muscle pain, arthritis, itching, and minor skin irritations. Also used in vaporubs, chest rubs, and inhalant preparations for cough and cold relief. Cooling sensation mediated through TRPV3 and TRPM8 receptor activation.

industrial

Plastics & Industrial

Traditional plasticizer in celluloid (cellulose nitrate) used for the production of table tennis balls, guitar picks, and other specialty items. The camphor acts as both plasticizer and stabilizer for cellulose nitrate formulations, a use dating back to the 1870 invention of celluloid.

dental

Religious & Cultural

Widely used as incense in Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain religious ceremonies across India, Southeast Asia, and China. The pure white camphor flame, which burns without leaving residue, symbolizes the burning away of ego and impurities. Major market in camphor tablets and blocks for ceremonial use.

industrial

Household

Traditional moth repellent and insect deterrent for stored clothing and textiles. Used in household cleaning products and air fresheners. The strong, penetrating odor effectively masks other odors and provides a characteristic 'clean' scent in household formulations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the shelf life of

Under recommended storage conditions — tightly sealed in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight — Camphor Powder (Synthetic) remains stable for 2 to 3 years. Monitor for any changes in aroma, color, or viscosity before use in production batches.

How is Camphor Powder (Synthetic) extracted?

Camphor Powder (Synthetic) is from the . This method preserves the full spectrum of volatile aromatic compounds and bioactive constituents that define the oil''s therapeutic and sensory profile.

What documentation do you provide with bulk orders?

Every shipment includes a Certificate of Analysis (COA) detailing the batch-specific chemical profile (GC/MS or GC-FID), physical parameters (specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation), and organoleptic assessment. Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS/SDS) is also provided. Additional documentation — including GC/MS chromatograms, pesticide residue analysis, heavy metal testing, and allergen statements — is available upon request.

What are the minimum order quantities (MOQ)?

Standard MOQ is 1 kg for most compound / isolates, with bulk pricing available at 5 kg, 25 kg, and 180 kg drum quantities. Contact our sales team for current pricing and availability for your required volume.

Do you offer samples for evaluation?

Yes. We provide complimentary 10–30 mL samples of most products for qualified B2B buyers to evaluate quality, aroma, and suitability before placing bulk orders. Sample requests are subject to availability and shipping costs may apply. Request a sample through our contact form.
