Frankincense Oil

Frankincense

Relieves PMS, rejuvenates aging skin, aids meditation

Product Description

Frankincense oil, also known as olibanum, is steam-distilled from the oleo-gum-resin exuded by trees of the genus Boswellia, which grow in the arid, mountainous regions of the Horn of Africa (Somalia, Ethiopia), the Arabian Peninsula (Oman, Yemen), and northwestern India. The resin—harvested by making incisions in the bark and collecting the dried tears—has been traded along the Incense Route since 3000 BC and remains integral to religious ceremonies, traditional medicine, and modern aromatherapy. Our frankincense oil is sourced from multiple origins: Boswellia carterii from Somalia/Northern Kenya (the classical Biblical frankincense), Boswellia sacra from Oman (the most prized grade, with a citrusy-green top note), and Boswellia serrata from India (rich in boswellic acids, preferred for pharmaceutical applications). Each origin offers a distinct chemical fingerprint—Somali/ Kenyan oil is high in α-pinene and limonene; Omani Sacred frankincense contains elevated α-thujene; Indian serrata is distinguished by its α-thujene and sabinene content.

Benefits & Properties

Relieves PMS, rejuvenates aging skin, aids meditation

Chemical Composition

Boswellic acid, frankincense alcohol, etc.

Industry Applications

cosmetics

Skincare & Anti-Aging

One of the most valued oils in premium natural skincare. The boswellic acids and incensole acetate in frankincense exhibit potent anti-inflammatory activity, making it effective in formulations for mature, sun-damaged, and sensitive skin. Clinical evidence supports its use in reducing the appearance of fine lines, improving skin tone and elasticity, and calming inflammatory skin conditions. A key ingredient in luxury facial oils, serums, and eye creams.

aromatherapy

Aromatherapy & Meditation

Historically and contemporarily associated with spiritual practice and meditation. Frankincense is diffused in yoga studios, meditation centers, and churches worldwide to deepen breathing, quiet mental chatter, and create a sacred atmosphere. The sesquiterpene-rich fraction (incensole acetate) has been shown to activate TRPV3 ion channels in the brain, producing anxiolytic and antidepressant effects. Blends with myrrh, sandalwood, and cedarwood for grounding meditative aromas.

pharma

Pharmaceutical & Nutraceutical

Boswellia serrata extract is one of the best-studied botanical anti-inflammatories, with multiple randomized controlled trials demonstrating efficacy in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis), and bronchial asthma. The pentacyclic triterpenic acids (particularly AKBA — acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid) inhibit 5-lipoxygenase, a key enzyme in the inflammatory cascade. The essential oil complements the resin extract in whole-spectrum formulations.

fragrance

Fragrance Industry

A classic ingredient in oriental, amber, and incense fragrance families. Frankincense provides a luminous, transparent resinous quality that bridges citrus top notes and woody base notes. Used in fine perfumery (particularly niche and natural perfume houses), incense sticks, and luxury home fragrance products. The CO₂ extract offers a truer-to-resin profile than the steam-distilled oil.

Blending Suggestions

All citrus oils (Bergamot, Lemon, Sweet Orange), Black Pepper, Cedarwood, Cinnamon, Clary Sage, Geranium, Lavender, Myrrh, Neroli, Patchouli, Rose, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Ylang Ylang — the universal base-to-middle note connector in oriental, woody, and meditative blends

Storage & Shelf Life

Store in tightly sealed containers in a cool, dark place. Shelf life: 3–5 years. Frankincense oil is relatively stable; α-pinene and limonene may slowly oxidize over extended storage. Protected from air and light, the oil matures gracefully, with some perfumers preferring aged frankincense for its smoother, more integrated aroma.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the shelf life of

Under recommended storage conditions — tightly sealed in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight — Frankincense Oil remains stable for 2 to 3 years. Monitor for any changes in aroma, color, or viscosity before use in production batches.

How is Frankincense Oil extracted?

What documentation do you provide with bulk orders?

Every shipment includes a Certificate of Analysis (COA) detailing the batch-specific chemical profile (GC/MS or GC-FID), physical parameters (specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation), and organoleptic assessment. Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS/SDS) is also provided. Additional documentation — including GC/MS chromatograms, pesticide residue analysis, heavy metal testing, and allergen statements — is available upon request.

What are the minimum order quantities (MOQ)?

Standard MOQ is 1 kg for most essential oils, with bulk pricing available at 5 kg, 25 kg, and 180 kg drum quantities. Contact our sales team for current pricing and availability for your required volume.

Do you offer samples for evaluation?
