Essential Oil

Turmeric Oil

Turmeric

Promotes circulation, relieves pain

Product Description

Turmeric oil is steam-distilled from the dried and comminuted rhizomes of Curcuma longa L., the same botanical that yields the familiar golden-yellow turmeric spice. The oil is dominated by turmerone (ar-turmerone, α-turmerone, β-turmerone, together 40–60%) and zingiberene (10–25%), with significant amounts of ar-curcumene and curlone. These sesquiterpene ketones give turmeric oil its characteristic warm, spicy-earthy aroma and are also responsible for many of the oil's documented biological activities, particularly its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Our turmeric oil is sourced from Zhejiang, China.

Industry Applications

pharma

Pharmaceutical & Nutraceutical

Turmeric (curcumin and turmerones) is one of the most extensively researched botanical medicines. Curcumin, the yellow pigment and primary non-volatile bioactive compound in turmeric, has well-documented anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and chemopreventive properties. The essential oil (particularly ar-turmerone) enhances the bioavailability of curcumin and contributes independent anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective activity. Turmeric essential oil is used in anti-inflammatory supplement formulations, often in combination with curcumin extracts, black pepper (piperine enhances curcumin absorption), and ginger.

cosmetics

Skincare & Cosmetics

Valued in natural and Ayurvedic skincare for its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and complexion-enhancing properties. Turmeric has been used in Indian beauty traditions for millennia — the traditional 'haldi' (turmeric) ceremony before weddings involves applying a turmeric paste to the bride and groom for glowing skin. The essential oil brings the anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial benefits without the intense yellow staining of the powdered spice, though the oil itself has a pale yellow-orange color that may contribute a subtle tint to formulations. Used in anti-acne, brightening, and anti-aging products at 0.1–0.5%.

flavor

Flavor Industry

Turmeric oleoresin (solvent extract of dried rhizomes, containing both the essential oil and curcumin) is heavily used as a natural food colorant (E100) and flavoring agent in the food industry. The essential oil alone is used in savory flavor profiles — curry blends, pickles, mustards, soups, and sauces — for its warm, spicy, earthy notes. The oil provides the aromatic complexity of turmeric without the deep yellow color of the oleoresin, which can be advantageous in certain applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the shelf life of

Under recommended storage conditions — tightly sealed in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight — Turmeric Oil remains stable for 2 to 3 years. Monitor for any changes in aroma, color, or viscosity before use in production batches.

How is Turmeric Oil extracted?

Turmeric Oil is steam distillation from the roots and stems of a plant in the Zingiberaceae family. This method preserves the full spectrum of volatile aromatic compounds and bioactive constituents that define the oil''s therapeutic and sensory profile.

What documentation do you provide with bulk orders?

Every shipment includes a Certificate of Analysis (COA) detailing the batch-specific chemical profile (GC/MS or GC-FID), physical parameters (specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation), and organoleptic assessment. Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS/SDS) is also provided. Additional documentation — including GC/MS chromatograms, pesticide residue analysis, heavy metal testing, and allergen statements — is available upon request.

What are the minimum order quantities (MOQ)?

Standard MOQ is 1 kg for most essential oils, with bulk pricing available at 5 kg, 25 kg, and 180 kg drum quantities. Contact our sales team for current pricing and availability for your required volume.

Do you offer samples for evaluation?

Yes. We provide complimentary 10–30 mL samples of most products for qualified B2B buyers to evaluate quality, aroma, and suitability before placing bulk orders. Sample requests are subject to availability and shipping costs may apply. Request a sample through our contact form.
