The oil is dominated by the monoterpene alcohols citronellol and geraniol, which together account for 40–70% of the oil and give geranium its distinctive rosy-floral character. Chinese geranium oil from Yunnan has established itself as a major commercial grade, offering a balanced citronellol-geraniol profile at competitive pricing.
